Update: The latest developments have been added to the later part of the article.
In an interesting turn of events this month, my planned cinema trip to watch Joker 2 took an unexpected detour. Despite (or perhaps because of) the overwhelmingly positive reviews, I decided to hold off and set my sights on something else: “Venom: The Last Dance,” slated for release on October 25. Little did I know, this date would prove significant not just for Marvel fans but for the tech world as well.
In an exciting announcement (Via X), Human Mobile Devices (HMD) has revealed a collaboration that’s sending waves through both the tech and entertainment communities. The company’s latest innovation, the HMD Fusion – which caught attention last month with its groundbreaking “Repair-it-yourself” feature – is getting a symbiote makeover, thanks to a partnership with “Venom: The Last Dance.”
The teaser video HMD released is nothing short of spectacular. It shows the standard HMD Fusion, with its distinctive see-through design, being dramatically overtaken by the iconic symbiote. The teaser indicates that this is a “Ultimate Symbiotic” smartphone. While we’re still waiting for the big reveal of the final product, this collaboration has massive potential, given Venom’s enormous fanbase. The merger of this beloved character with HMD’s innovative smartphone could create something truly special.
From what we understand, while the phone will feature unique visual elements inspired by the symbiote, the changes will likely be primarily cosmetic. Fans can expect a custom launcher to enhance the Venom experience, but the phone’s core hardware specifications may remain unchanged.
This collaboration represents more than just a marketing move; it’s a perfect marriage of innovation and entertainment that could significantly boost the HMD Fusion’s market presence. For tech enthusiasts and Venom fans alike, this week will surely be interesting.
Update 21-10-24: HMD reveals that they only made three Smart Skins for the collab
HMD has showcased their Smart Skin for Venom: The Last Dance collab. There are only three pieces of this conceptual item, below is the working:
- Ferrofluid Technology: The Venom: The Last Dance Smart Outfit incorporates 160 electromagnetic arrays that control a liquid known as ferrofluid. This liquid moves dynamically within a glass chamber attached to the back of the phone, simulating the fluid, symbiotic movement of Venom from the movie. The ferrofluid responds to the electromagnetic signals, creating a visually captivating effect, much like the way Venom interacts with its host in the film.
- Symbiotic Connection with the Device: The smart outfit connects to the Fusion smartphone via six smart pins. These pins not only attach the outfit securely but also enable the exchange of data between the outfit and the device, allowing the phone’s software and hardware to adjust to the outfit. This concept parallels the fusion between Eddie Brock and Venom, as the phone undergoes a transformation both in appearance and functionality once the outfit is attached.
- Software Integration: Once the Venom: The Last Dance outfit is connected, it triggers a transformation of the phone’s user interface (UI). This includes:
- Custom Sounds: The phone’s system sounds are altered to include Venom’s voice from the movie, with phrases like “We are Venom” as the boot-up sound, a “We are screwed” ringtone, and a Venom-voiced alarm.
- Visual Changes: The phone’s icons and wallpapers are replaced with Venom-themed designs, giving users a fully immersive, Venom-inspired interface. These changes reflect the symbiosis concept by allowing the device to “mimic” the character of Venom.
- Physical and Digital Synergy: The smart outfit doesn’t just alter the software but also influences the physical look of the phone, with the ferrofluid’s movements symbolizing the constant dynamic between the host (Fusion phone) and the symbiote (the smart outfit). This creates a deeper engagement, as the device appears to be alive and reactive, akin to Venom’s relationship with Eddie Brock.
