Smartphone for children? Well, HMD has big plans. They have announced The Better Phone project bringing a new smartphone that is designed for the well-being of children.
In today’s era, it is hard to keep children away from phones. Sometimes parents give their phones to their kids, which is not recommended at all. The internet is not a safe place after all.
Hence, HMD has announced The Better Phone project. They will be launching a phone with well-being features. It will play the role of an alternative to a smartphone. The aim is to preserve the mental health of the children with a digital detox space.
Lars Silberbauer, CMO of HMD, said:
“The Better Phone Project is a journey to discovering a variety of solutions that tackle digital overload, providing choice and balance. Our goal is to collaborate with parents and experts to develop solutions that truly meet people’s needs, driving innovation in this space.”
According to a finding, 11 is the average age when a parent gives a smartphone to their children and they wished they delayed it even more. However, in today’s era, it is hard to avoid smartphones from children.
The Better Phone Has Potential
What could be done is make a device that is designed especially for children and has a lot of security, privacy, and well-being features. This seems to be the direction that HMD will be going on with The Better Phone project.
The company already has a lot of feature phone experience, and they also launched a digital detox device called The Boring Phone. Probably, The Better Phone will go in the same direction. However, there should be a balance between features and simplicity to attract the younger generations. If it is too simple like a feature phone, it may not be liked and avoided by children.
